Life (Style) Changes

Since the economy hasn’t rebounded as much as we’d all hoped, there’s still plenty of belt tightening left to be done in many American households. And while cutting corners may not feel so good now, just remember that living with less doesn’t mean that your quality of life has to take a nose dive. It can be surprisingly easy to live comfortably with fewer luxuries–you just have to know how and where to cut.

Cut the Cable: It’s the obvious way to cut household expenses, and yet it feels like an absolute last resort. But eliminating cable can save most families anywhere from $70-$100/month. At the very least, you might want to look into cutting your premium package.

Consolidate: If eliminating cable honestly and truly seems synonymous with cutting off a limb, then you can actually use your cable company to save money on other household bills. If you’re using separate companies to pay for your landline phone, Internet access, and cable, you may be able to bundle your services through your cable company and save money on all three bills. I just made the switch myself and am now saving about $30 per month!

The aforementioned changes may be small, but they can have a huge impact in your monthly expenses. By eliminating little luxurious here and there each month, within a year’s time you could potentially save thousands of dollars. Good luck and happy savings!
