Life at the Office

Now that you’ve graduated from school and have entered the real world (and are smart enough to look for coupon deals so you can afford to pay back all of those school loans) it’s time to get acclimated to office life. Although life beyond the dorms can be expensive, there are more than a few ways to cut corners and live well.

Dress the Part: Baseball T-shirts and tank tops won’t cut it at the office, so it may be time to put together a new wardrobe. Head out to Nordstrom’s and take advantage of their fall sale, or visit any number of retailers to stock up on appropriate shirts, suits and office accessories.

Don’t Rely on a Phone: Although you got used to beginning your day at noon during your final spring quarter, it’s now more important than ever to make a good impression and prove to your boss that she made the right choice. Don’t rely on your cell phone’s built in alarm system, no matter how smart your phone may be. Invest in a reliable alarm clock and set it up far away from your nightstand.

New Computer: Although the laptop that you parents bought you when you were entering college is surprisingly still running, it surely won’t be for long. Don’t risk losing any integral material for work or jeopardizing an office project due to faulty technology. Instead, purchase a Pavilion Desktop from HP Home and Office Store before July 31 and receive 25% off your order (code: DTT14728).

Good luck at your new job and enjoy your new office life!

School Daze

Summer may be in full swing, but the fall season will be here before you know it. If your child will be setting off for her first year of college, then you will soon find yourself scrambling to purchase everything she’ll need for her new dorm room and her new life on her own. Those first-year start-up costs can be pretty brutal, but there are ways to save a little cash here and there.

Clothes: If your college freshman is attending school in a state that has a lower sales tax, it might be in your best interest to hold off on buying back-to-school clothes until you actually arrive at the University. Not only will you save money, but you’ll have far fewer boxes to pack!

Dorm Supplies: For the first time your child will need all of her own household supplies. This means everything from shampoo and toothpaste to bath towels. Check out one-stop-shops like Target and Wal-Mart that will have absolutely everything an incoming freshman will need.

Electronics: Along with dorm supplies, your freshman will also need supplies for class—notebooks, pens, paper, and a computer. And if you’re going to shell out good money for a big-ticket item like a desktop or laptop, then you might as well get an extra perk. If you purchase a Mac computer at the Apple Store by September 20 you can get a $100 Back to School card that can be used at the Mac App Store, the App Store, the iTunes Store, and the iBookstore. Now that’s a bonus!
